Berkeley Manor

30 Home Low Income Housing Tax Credit Project (LIHTC) Berkeley, MO

Berkeley was one of the communities that got hit hard by the Good Friday Tornado in April of 2011 with about 400 properties damaged. Through the assistance of funding from The Missouri Housing Development Commission, thirty new single family residences were built to stabilize the neighborhood and provide affordable energy-efficient housing. The new residences, built by Rubicon Corporation, range in size from1,120 to 1,327 square feet and achieved ICC-700 National Green Building Standard certification.

This project, completed in 2009, consisted of 14 new single family residences and two new duplexes in the Greater Ville Neighborhood of North St. Louis. The $5.2 million development, financed using Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), brings the total to 55 new residential units, two rehabbed apartment units and one rehabbed commercial building Curtiss Byrne has designed for Northside Community Housing, Inc. over the last five years.

Universal Design Prototype House

Completed in 2004, this 1,250 sq.ft. residence was built to showcase universal design in an affordable residence. Some of the accessible features include stepless entries at the front porch and garage, a tiled roll-in shower and a kitchen sink with hide-away doors. Curtiss W. Byrne Architect's design received an Award for Excellence from the Starkloff Disability Institute.

Across the street from historic Bellefontaine Cemetery, 49 new infill residences were built, and 23 units were rehabbed. New residences included one-story cottage style residences, two-story single-family townhouses and two-family townhouses. Rehabbed units included a gut rehab of an apartment building and the conversation of several four-family residences into two-family residences.
